Celtic Fiddling Links

Here of some of my favorite Celtic Fiddling links:

First of all, there's the contact page for the Potomac Valley Scottish Fiddle Club, of which I am a member.

If you're in the D.C. area and are interested in Scottish Fiddle, there's no better place to go than the Washington Conservatory of Music, where Elke Baker, my instructor, teaches.

The next best place to check out is my DC Scottish Session blog, where I keep track of all the traditional Scottish music sessions and workshop around the greater DC area.

Here's a collection of the Scottish Fiddle tune books I own and where you can find them on the web:

For more great collections of Scottish (and other Celtic) sheet music try these vendors:
FC = Fiddler's Crossing
FSCM = Foot Stompin' Celtic Music
TnT = Taigh na Teud
CP = Cranford Publications
SP = Scottpress
LiAM = Lark in the Morning
MLM = Maple Leaf Music
EI = Elderly Instruments

The maker of my baroque violin and bows can be found at Walter Mahr Gegenbau. For general supplies for violins, try Southwest Strings.  Other good source for violins and supplies is Giardinelli, and Shar Music. An excellent source for strings (for just about any stringed instrument) is Just Strings. For luthier supplies, try International Luthier Supply, or Quinn Violins, the latter also is a general violin supply vendor. A good source for violin and other instrument cases is Fine Cases.

Schatten Design is a maker of pick-up microphones for violin.

The page background is the Walker Hunting tartan, registered by Robert Walker Hawks of Tennessee in 1991. Despite the name, the dress tartan is restricted to wear during performance of Highland Dance. It's mainly characterized by the substution of some of the field by white. I've had to mute the tartan somewhat to make it possible to read text on it!

Made on a Mac.
